Education is an important category for the formation and health manpower managing. This study has been done with a
general aim of analyzing the education process, using continuing education and permanent education concepts of health
workers in a health basic unit at the health coordination of the butantã sub- city council. The specific objectives were the
analysis of the health workers profile, the health staff and the continuing education process of the workers. This research has
a quantified and qualified character of descriptive and exploratory kind. During data collection, secondary and primary
resources have been used with two questionnaires; with the health workers description and the educational process description.
The last questionnaire has been submitted through interview with 15 selected workers regarding the key-informant, according
to the professional and management area. The results show that most part of the workers are composed by health community
agents and nursery assistants 60,2% of all the workers, 53,4% of such workers, inside the PSF and PACS staffs. 51
education processes have been identified, being most of them classified as promotion, prevention and recuperation of health
(62, 7%) aimed to the community, health agents, and all the service and nursery workers. The biggest requirement is an
external one, with speeches, display classes as a learning strategy. It’s concluded that there is the existence of a tension
between the continuing education and permanent education concepts, being both present, with relevant difference.
